In July 2015, three projects implemented under the "Creative Path to Knowledge" projects were successfully concluded at the Novo mesto School of Business and Management. The call for applications was issued by the Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund in order for students to attempt to solve practical problems in the economy. The three projects involved 29 students from different colleges and faculties, three pedagogical mentors and five workplace mentors.
The product of the "TransCost" project is two applications for calculating transportation costs in small transportation companies. The applications were created in the MS Excel software. The students prepared a user-friendly application that calculates the costs of the planned route. The workplace mentor, Mrs Mateja Jerebič from the company Vigros d.o.o., had this to say about the usefulness of the application: "The TransCost application has given our company the option to calculate the total transportation costs, including the option to compare the costs of a third-party carrier." The "TransCost" project was presented at the Agra fair in Gornja Radgona on Saturday, 22 August, together with the "E_PA" project. The booth of the Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund was also visited by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Dejan Židan, MSc. The workplace mentor of the "E_PA" project, Mr Gašper Repanšek, who was present at the fair, had this to say about the applicability of the project: "There are about 25 thousand people employed in the catering industry in Slovenia, who must be familiar with food allergens. The e-handbook created under the project is intended for guests and employees. They can use it to find the information they need about the allergens contained in dishes."
Short descriptions of the projects "TransCost", "E_PA" and "H4U" can be found on the website: http://pkp2.altervista.org/. The above-mentioned website also contains a link to the website of the "H4U" project. The product of the "H4U" project provides easy and synthesised insight into herbs for daily use.
We are living in a service and information society. As consumers we are becoming increasingly aware of the goods that we can obtain through Internet applications in real time. We must develop services that are adapted to the modern consumer and have a high added value. The project aims to develop an application that would enable ordering a service or product quickly and easily, without any unnecessary typing, which is typical for today's online orders of goods and services. The project brings to the market a potentially new service with a high added value, compared to the competition. Consumers who decide to purchase or order online thus save the time they would have spent in the actual location. The bottlenecks, such as ordering, payment and delivery, have been partly eliminated through online ordering, online payment and delivery to the location chosen by the buyer.
The project falls under the following study fields according to the Klasius system: P-4828-Use of Internet and computer networks; P-4812-Computer programming and programming languages; P-5419-Food processing (other); 3419-Wholesale and retail sales (other); 3142-Econometrics. The project involved four students and two mentors from the Novo mesto School of Business and Management and a workplace mentor from the company Repa.
The project was partially financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund. The project was implemented under the Operational Programme for Human Resources Development for the Period 2007–2013, priority axis 1: "Promoting entrepreneurship and adaptability" and policy orientation 1.3 "Scholarship schemes" under the approved operation "Creative Path to Knowledge".
