With the project, in cooperation with the farms involved in the project, we want to transfer knowledge and newly gained experience about the cycle of nutrients, organic matter and processes to other cattle farms in Slovenia (and in the EU). The project will help to improve the productivity, flexibility and competitiveness of cattle farming, improve and manage the use of available resources to reduce any form of waste and improve the environmental sustainability of livestock production. The results of our project will contribute to the improvement of good agricultural practices on farms, with the aim of improving consumer acceptance (perception) and solving social challenges related to animal welfare, product quality and safety, biodiversity conservation, and the provision of services to different ecosystems. By knowing the changes in microclimate (temperature, humidity and air flow) in the barn (measured by sensors) and the measured emissions of certain greenhouse gasses, we will make professional and scientific improvements (also in collaboration with foreign researchers) that we will propose to the farms involved in the project and that will help reduce the negative effects of heat stress on animals and mitigate climate change. With innovative solutions related to animal husbandry and housing systems, we will get to excretions (organic fertilizers, compost, urine/feces) that, if properly used, will have a significant impact on improving soil fertility and increasing biodiversity (mainly permanent grassland).
The project is co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
